Flora Ascione
Technician
Flora Ascione brings together a multidisciplinary background in biophysics, engineering, biology, microfabrication, and advanced microscopy to design tailored experimental solutions and support cutting-edge biomedical research.
Her scientific path began at the University of Naples Federico II, where she built a strong foundation in biochemistry and molecular biology through work on recombinant protein purification. During her PhD in Chemical, Materials and Industrial Production Engineering, she focused on cell migration in 2D and 3D, combining time-lapse microscopy, advanced image analysis, and mathematical modeling. An internship at Institut Curie further strengthened her expertise in 3D cell biology and tumor invasion.
Her postdoctoral research, carried out between Institut Curie, the University of Naples, and École Polytechnique, allowed her to investigate how microenvironmental cues, topography, and fluid flow influence cell behavior, integrating biophysics, engineering, and mechanobiology.
Since 2018, she has been a Research Technician at IFOM, specializing in the fabrication and testing of experimental devices through microfabrication and 3D printing, as well as in AFM-based mechanical characterization of cells and biomaterials.
