We seek for our Institute a BIOINFORMATICS SCIENTIST
The candidate will be placed within the laboratory of Prof. Bardelli, full professor at the University of Turin and scientific director of IFOM institute in Milan. The Bardelli’s laboratory is a dynamic and multidisciplinary group encompassing computational biologists, biotechnologists, physicians and physicists with extensive national and international collaborations.
MAIN ACTIVITIES
Our research aims at finding new therapeutic opportunities for colorectal cancer patients. We aims at:
- testing for the first time the hypothesis that therapeutic inactivation of DNA repair pathways in cancer cells can be exploited for patient benefit by reawakening an anti-tumor immune response.
- characterizing tumor evolution and cancer cell plasticity to identify new targets and therapeutic approaches to prevent tumor recurrence.
Candidates will develop custom methods or will perform standard pipelines to pursue these aims and will have the opportunity to collaborate with several projects leaded by current members of the lab.
REQUIREMENTS
- PhD in biology, genetics, bioinformatics, computational biology or in a related field of the life sciences.
- A strong background in cancer biology and/or computer science.
- Knowledge in statistics.
- Good Skills in programming
- Proficiency in Unix-based systems (shell scripting).
- A flexible and problem-solving approach to work effectively in response to changing demands.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and strong aptitude for teamwork.
PREFERENTIAL TITLES
- Experience in analysis of Next Generation Sequencing data.
- Advanced statistical knowledge is a plus.
- Experience in analysis of -omics data (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, methylomics).
- Fluency in one or more relevant programming languages, such as R or Python or Perl, for performing custom computational analyses or executing existing algorithms
- Experience working in an HPC Linux computing environment
